Dogwood Lane in Womelsdorf for a house fire
Fri, Oct 20th, 2017 1:53:00 pm This morning at 0030 hours the WVFC along with mutual aid companies from Marion, Robesonia, Newmanstown, Keystone Fire Co. of Myerstown, Richland Fire Co for RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) and Western Berks EMS were dispatched to 345 Dogwood Lane in Womelsdorf for a house fire. Dispatchers advised multiple callers were reporting the back of the house was on fire and the occupants were out of the home.

Assistant 47-1 arrived on location confirming a working fire with heavy fire in the rear of the home which was was now spreading to the front of the home. He requested a second alarm which brought additional apparatus and manpower from Keystone Fire Co and Goodwill Fire Cos of Myerstown, Richland and the Western Berks FD.

Upon arrival Engine 47 secured a primary water supply by laying 800ft of 5" supply hose from a hydrant and crews stretched multiple hose lines for extinguishment. Ladder 47 arrived and crews set up the main ladder for master stream operations and threw the entire compliment of ground ladders. Engine 52 from Marion secured a secondary water supply from another hydrant and supplied Ladder 47.

Once the majority of visible fire was knocked down from the outside crews made entry and extinguished all fire and overhauled the entire home. Crews were on scene for almost four hours and there were no injuries reported.

Of special note all of the family's smoke detectors activated which alerted them to escape their home. We have no doubt that if there were no detectors in the home or they failed to operate the outcome of the fire would have been tragic due to the rapid progress of the fire and all the occupants, 2 adults and 3 children, had been sleeping.

The PA State Police Fire Marshal will be investigating the fire however it doesn't appear suspicious. The home appears to be a complete loss.

Thanks to all of the VOLUNTEERS of our mutual-aid companies for their assistance.
