On Sunday, November 19, 2023 at 1905 hours, Ladder was dispatched to assist the Western Berks Fire Dept. with a building fire at Reading Alloys, 220 Old West Penn Ave., in South Heidelberg Twp.

Deputy 18-2 arrived on scene confirming smoke showing and an active fire in machinery inside the building. Ladder 47 arrived as the first-due truck company, with split crews laddering the building and assisting inside with checking for extension in the duct work.
Due to the type of metals at the plant and the metals being water reactive, multiple Class D metal fire extinguishers were needed to assist with extinguishment. Once the incident was under control multiple positive pressure fans were set up to ventilate the building.

The WVFC was on scene for over 2 hours.
