On Tuesday May 9 at 1658 hours Chief 47 saw a large column of smoke in the boro and upon investigating found a working shed fire with extension to a neighboring garage to the rear of 338 W. High St. and called it out just as Berks County DES started getting multiple calls. The structure fire assignment was dispatched which brought the WVFC along with fire companies from Newmanstown, Marion, Robesonia, Richland for RIT and Western Berks EMS.
Engine 47 arrived and the crew stretched an attack line and began extinguishing the fire. Engine 52 took a hydrant at 4th and Cherry Dr. supplying Engine 47. Crews from Engine 34, Ladder 47 and Attack 47 forced entry into the garage and put a 2nd attack line in service to the garage. Fortunately firefighters were able to prevent the fire from extending inside the garage and prevent any damage to the contents which included a stored vehicle.
The fire was quickly extinguished and the assignment was held to 47, 52, and Lebanon 34 to perform overhaul.
The fire is under investigation by the PA State Police Fire Marshal. |
