August 29, 2022

This past weekend the WVFC responded to four calls, three on Saturday and one on Sunday while assisting with the 29th Annual Ride For Freedom.

Saturday's responses were all but back to back.

1227 hours: Structure Fire - 43 Diner Dr., Bethel Twp.; Quality Inn. Ladder 47 due for bushes on fire next to a building but was cancelled en-route.

1314 hours: Brush Fire - Park St. & Locust St.; Millcreek Twp. Engine 47 responded and was cancelled en-route.

1329 hours: Structure Fire - 301 S. Hull St. - Go Fish; Sinking Spring Borough, Co.47 RIT due. Ladder 47 dispatched to cover the first-due Rapid Intervention Team for a report of smoke inside the building. Units on scene found a faulty elevator motor and L47 was cancelled en-route.

On Sunday the 29th Annual Ride for Freedom took place which honors all POW/MIAs from all wars. The WVFC provides food and drinks as a fundraiser. Our fire police and other fire police from neighboring communities including Newmanstown, Myerstown, and Rehrersburg assisted around the Womelsdorf area. About 15 minutes after the ride started at 1130am a vehicle crash involving a motorcycle occurred in the area of Route 422 & Weiser Lane in Heidelberg Twp. The crash occurred as the rider lost control after the ride line suddenly backed up. The assignment was held to Engine 47 and EMS who's crew assisted with patient care for the injured rider until the arrival of EMS. Special thanks to Car 27-1 (Rehrersburg) and a nurse who stopped to provide patient care prior to FD and EMS arrival.
